The Sunday BBQ

The AGM Committee also investigated locations for the Sunday BBQ Event. The Criteria that we are aiming to get from the location is listed below:

  • Within walking distance of the Conference and easy to find.
  • Has a large open lawn areas for Cricket and other activities
  • Has shelter if there is some bad weather
  • Close to free sunday parking
After traipsing through the parklands we found an old place called the "bandstand" near the top of the Fitzroy gardens. It fulfilled all of our criteria. If the weather looks to be really bad, we may need to consider that and indoor event may be on the cards, but if there are on and off showers the bandstand will do just fine.

The walk is about 1.5km, cutting through the treasury gardens, or you could park anywhere around the gardens, including Clarendon st which is right next to the chosen site.
 -
The old bandstand could fit around 40 people comfortably, with another 30-40 in the rain shadow.

If the weather forecast for the day is bad, then we will have a backup venue at the ready.

At this stage we are still hunting for a good Friday night complex. The issue has been cost, as we want to give our asttendees an affordable experience, and so we are looking for a low cost but comfortable solution to the video get together. Stay tuned as we continue our search.... which hasn't been easy so far, but i'm sure will come up with the goods. Once this has been finalized we will be emailing all ASWA members and on this thread the application for attending form, which i suspect will be within the next 2 weeks.

Also, the committee will be attempting to gain media coverage of our event in the lead up, and will require volunteers to be apart of it. More details to follow.
